Instagram Privacy News

If you are a professional in the performing arts, chances are that you use Instagram! Instagram is a great platform for creatives, and maintaining an Instagram account can be a great thing for your career.

Not too long ago, Instagram was acquired by Facebook. This doesn’t change much for the average user, but performers should be aware of recent changes to the Facebook and Instagram privacy settings.

The long and short of it is that you now have to prove ownership over your accounts in order to share them on other websites. If you use an Instagram feed on your site, we’ll contact you directly about this. If you don’t … and would like to consider it, we thought we’d share the info on our blog for all to see! In order to link your account to other sites, your Instagram profile needs to be a “creator” profile, and it must be linked to a Facebook fan page.

Even if you don’t have or want an Instagram feed on your website, you can still benefit from having a creator profile. Instagram allows “creators” extra insights into their followers and provides additional tools for brand building and networking. If you are an actor, these are incredibly helpful tools! We recommend that anyone pursuing a career in the performing arts switch their Instagram to a creator profile.

We shouldn’t have to tell you that a Facebook fan page is also important, but just in case, you should DEFINITELY have a Facebook fan page. It is important for you to have an official presence on all social media platforms, and this includes Facebook!

Do you have any questions about linking Instagram feeds, creator profiles, or Facebook fan pages? If so, reach out to ellen@stagedoordesigns.com and we’ll be happy to help you reach your goals!
