7 Tips for Posting About New Projects

As production reopens and our clients audition and book, we hear more and more about their need (or even requirement) to post on social media. Instagram and Twitter are the most popular ways to do that, so we’ve made a list of 7 key guidelines to help you make the most of your social media presence!

FIRST AND FOREMOST:  Make sure you are allowed to post. Actors may be asked to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (or NDA).  If you are restricted from posting, then don't! However; more often than not, once you book the job your employer will want you to help get the word out. Here are some things to consider as you plan and implement your social media strategy.

  1. Announce when you have booked a job.  even if you can't say what it is yet, you can always follow up with another tweet or post when you are permitted to announce!  Create some buzz and encourage followers to check in for updates. When it’s official, follow up with any related articles or news bytes!

  2. Triple check those you follow. From industry professionals to project accounts, be sure you are following everyone and everything that is related to your new project.  Setting up a Google Alert is a good idea - reminds you when there is a new article or announcement that you can share and use to create interaction and dialogue.

  3. Invite your fans through the stage door with sneak peeks inside the rehearsal process on stage and on set. They'll love it! You can do this throughout the project.  Just be sure to follow your employer’s guidelines and respect castmate boundaries.

  4. Interact with castmates through posting pictures together and tagging each other. This is a great way to introduce yourself to their fan bases and gain more followers along the way.

  5. Fun with hashtags - be sure you are hash-tagging and tagging others in your posts.  Get as much visibility as you can! Visit the Instagram pages of industry professionals with a large following and check out what they are tagging, the more hashtags in a caption, the more visibility you can achieve!

  6. Fan Art is a great way for fans to interact with you, and thanking them on Instagram, Twitter, or even a page of your website, is a great way to show appreciation and engagement. Setting up a Fan Art Hall of Fame on your website, or using a specific fan art hashtag on Twitter and Instagram are great ways to amp up your social media engagement.

  7. Links to relevant publications, including reviews, cast parties, premieres, and award ceremonies keep your fanbase engaged with the growth of your project. Followers and fans want to celebrate milestones with you!

BONUS TIP
Don’t underestimate the power of social tools like Facebook (fan and business pages), as well as LinkedIn.  Many industry professionals are utilizing and checking these socials, so it's always good to have them. If you are using either (and we recommend you do), be sure to post there too!

More to come on the best ways to build your network using LinkedIn … watch for it!
